Healthy Hot Cacao

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk (preferably vegan milk)

  • 2 tablespoons raw cacao powder

  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (use to taste)

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  • Pinch sea salt

Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the milk, cacao powder, maple syrup to taste (a teaspoon or two should do you), vanilla and a pinch of salt (sometimes I also add a pinch of cinnamon or even cayenne, if I’m feeling racy). Whisk until smooth.

  2. Place saucepan over medium heat, and bring the milk to a simmer, whisking often. Give the hot chocolate a taste—if you prefer it sweeter whisk in a bit more maple syrup. Serve warm.

Notes:

  1. You can use other sweeteners too, I've used xylitol, stevia, monk fruit, raw honey, or a combination of a few of them.

  2. You can use baking cocoa too, raw cacao just has more nutrients see my blog post on chocolate for more details.

  3. Top with your favorite marshmallows, we use Dandie's Vegan Marshmallows
